This site is nearly all the fault of myself, Robert, a New Yorker (born a real long time ago — 1965). It exists mostly to provide my beautiful and indulgent (of myself) English wife with some quiet.
I’ve got graduate degrees in political science and in history, and I’ve taught in an American university. And I’ve worked at a British one. (After years of working a great deal, currently we are both temporarily enjoying working as little as possible.) More importantly, I like music, books, travel, and find skiing a bit of a challenge — however, as my wife LOVES to ski (and can ski very well!), of course I LOVE to ski, too. 
Overall, I’m probably a lot like yourself: Nobody special, just someone who looks at what’s reported and too often thinks, “Hmm . . . that doesn’t sound quite right.” And then I bash a keyboard.
